I’ve already gone through how to set up a MyDivert number on an iPhone in a few easy steps, so this is only going to be an update to that post.

Briefly: last March I was abroad for over a month therefore I needed to stay in touch with my local clients, family and friends without having them spend a fortune to call me.
While for written correspondence there are plenty solutions, such as emails, iMessage, WhatsApp, Skype and what not, voice communication may at times be difficult if the counterpart doesn’t have Viber or can’t work Skype or Facetime.
Also, that may work for friends and family, but I wouldn’t want to explain to a client why they should download and setup some app in order to talk to me, simply because I should make it easier for them to contact me, after all I’m providing them tech solutions, not tech headaches.
That’s why I decided to go with the VoIP local number option.
Until a couple years ago Skype was selling local numbers at really good prices, but since Microsoft took over, Skype stopped co-operating with third party developers and open-data licensing systems.
Luckily for us, there are some local phone number re-sellers, that will give you a number from whatever country and city you want, for a really good price.

I am currently away for another month, so I had to get a new VoIP number.
I already used MyDivert and found their service flawless, but I’ve recently discovered also FlyNumber, which offers the same service for even cheaper.
Basically, what they both do, is sell you a “virtual” landline number, which works just like any standard landline number, but is way cooler and allows you to take it around with you, wherever in the world you want.
Result is that people from that country will call you there, spending like a local call, but you may be picking up from another continent.

I have also found another app for iPhone that you can use your VoIP number with, and from the same company also the PC app, both have a really easy setup: ZoIPer.

I’ll use MyDivert to show you how to setup your VoIP number on your PC and Smartphone, in this post.

I have not setup a FlyNumber account yet, but it looks like the way the service works is slightly more complicated/flexible, probably not the right choice for the average user.

However, one thing that FlyNumber offers that MyDivert doesn’t any longer, is the possibility to forward calls to Skype usernames, not just Skype numbers.

On your MyDivert Dashboard, on the right, you’ll find a SIP Account box.
This box has all the information you need.

Now download ZoIPer for smartphone or PC, and install them.

The setup for iPhone (Im guessing it’s exactly the same on Android as well), is super simple:

Once you are done with typing account name (whatever you want), username, password and domain (from the SIP Account box), tap on the green button above (it will say Register at first), and if everything is good the button will now say Unregister and above Registration Status OK.

Pretty much same thing with the ZoIPer app for PC:
